Event Review: The Pole @ Lagos Lagos

As a resident DJ at a Yokohama, Japan club event known simply as "The Pole" which occurs once a month, I usually play at one set venue named 'The Green Sheep'.   As a favor to a friend who is a bar owner, all the DJs decided to take a departure from the usual and make the next Pole event at his place which took place on March 1, 2008.

Lagos Lagos is an African bar & restaurant located in the center of a shopping district in Kannai, Yokohama Japan known as Isezaki Mall.  The venue was a very small space, the smallest I have ever played at before.  It was about the size of my living room, but the atmosphere was very cool.  The bar style and setup felt like a small club.  The attendance which was about a little over 40 throughout the night was night.  At about any given time there were maybe 30 people within the bar making it a tight place to manuver through.

The guest were satisfied as some good reggae, hip hop, and R&B was played to satisfy the listening aspect of things, while the prices were quite good and not going to hurt anyone's pockets too much.  The event had a free cover, and all the basic drinks were discounted down to 500yen each from their usual prices.  The place made quite a bit of money and was really lively.  All-in-all it made for a great night.  It is somewhere I would like to definitely play at again.  The bar owner Emma 'Lagos' Hardel being a good friend of the DJs, we were all glad to help a brother out and we did this as a favor to him.  We thank him for letting us play at his bar.
